I live in a neighborhood where the primary language is not English. By and large, most people are fairly bilingual, but the more local you get, the less English you hear. Today at the laundermat, I got to pull out my language skills, which was super exciting for me and very beautiful!
But, the good and beautiful was: behind me, there with his mom, there was a little boy, between 3 and 4 years old, who was playing with his action figures. He was narrating the dialogue between them, and interjecting comments to his mom, and kept switching back and forth between languages. His action figures spoke English, his mom spoke Spanish, and so he translated, back and forth. It was that natural for him. And I thought, how beautiful! and how good!
